About Dolen Teifi Community Transport Dolen Teifi Community Transport was established by volunteers from the community enterprise group Llandysul and Pont-Tyweli Ymlaen Cyf (LPY), which was established to help build a strong and viable future for the communities of Llandysul and Pont-Tyweli. It became apparent that one of the areas which needed improving, was accessible transport. Dolen Teifi Community Transport was born in 2007, with the aim to provide accessible, and affordable group transport for people living in Llandysul and the surrounding area. Dolen Teifi became a member of the Community Transport Association, and began training volunteer drivers to the MiDAS standard.
As more people and organisations discovered the service, demand quickly grew beyond the original area. Today, Dolen Teifi supports communities across Carmarthenshire and Ceredigion. Much of this area is rural, public transport can be limited and travelling without a car can be difficult. For many people, community transport provides a vital link to healthcare, shopping, family and friends, community activities, and other everyday journeys.
Dolen Teifi works in partnership with local community organisations, charities and public sector partners to make these journeys possible. Together, we develop community transport solutions that respond to local needs and make the best use of shared resources.
One of the ways we do this is through our network of community transport hubs across Carmarthenshire and Ceredigion. Rather than operating from a single depot, accessible cars and minibuses are based with partner organisations in local communities.
This hub model enables community organisations to benefit from accessible transport without each needing to purchase, insure and maintain their own vehicle. It also means vehicles are closer to the people who need them, helping communities share resources while reducing unnecessary travel across our rural counties.
Our volunteer drivers are local people who understand their communities and the area they serve. Dolen Teifi coordinates bookings, supports and trains volunteer drivers, maintains the vehicles, and works closely with community hubs and partner organisations to ensure the service is safe, reliable and sustainable.
At the heart of Dolen Teifi is partnership. By bringing together community organisations, volunteers, public sector partners and local people, we are creating a transport network that is shaped by communities, for communities. Together, we are helping people stay independent, reduce isolation and remain connected to the services, activities and opportunities that enrich everyday life.
Over the years, Dolen Teifi Community Transport has worked with multiple partners on some amazing projects. Please take some time to read about our Community Transport projects.
